According to Ian Kennedy of The Hockey News On Monday, Canadian Olympian Sarah Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario, was named the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s inaugural Star of the Week for the week of February 27 to March 3, 2024. In two games, Nurse, who won the gold medal, won Canada on 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, had two goals and two assists for four points. She had six shots on goal, 27 faceoff wins and a game-winning goal.
Nurse’s game-winning goal came on February 27 in Toronto’s 4-3 win over Minnesota. She scored against Canadian Olympic champion Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne, Manitoba and Emma Maltais of Burlington, Ontario. Nurse’s other goal this week also came in the win over Minnesota. She scored ahead of Canadian Olympic champion Renata Fast of Hamilton, Ontario.
Nurse’s two assists helped lift Canadian Olympic gold medalist Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ontario, and Hannah Miller of North Vancouver, British Columbia, to Toronto’s 5-2 victory over Ottawa on March 2. Spooner and Larocque won gold medals for Canada 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Maltais and Fast won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
In 14 games this season, Nurse has four goals and six assists for 10 points. She is a -3 with 10 penalty minutes, 94 faceoff wins, 37 shots on goal and a game-tying goal. With the two wins, Toronto improved to a record of six regular-time wins, three overtime wins and five regular-time losses, or 24 points. They sit third in the PWHL standings, three points behind Montreal and Minnesota.
