Florida Panthers forward Sam Reinhart of West Vancouver, British Columbia, was named the National Hockey League’s first Star of the Week. In the first week of 2024 (January 1-8, 2024), Reinhart scored five goals and one assist for six points in three games.

Reinhart opened the week with a power play goal and a game-winning goal for Florida in a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on January 2nd. He scored goals against Toronto, Ontario’s Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov.

Then on January 4, in the Panthers’ 4-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, Reinhart scored a goal and an assist for two points. He set up Matthew Tkachuk in the second period and then scored on Tkachuk and Verhaeghe in the third period.

Reinhart then finished the week with a hat trick in Florida’s 8-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on January 6th. It was Reinhart’s seventh career NHL hat trick. As in the win over Arizona, Reinhart scored the game-winning goal against Colorado. It came from Tkachuk and Barkov at 5:59 of the third period on the power play.

In the 2023-24 season, Reinhart scored 28 goals and 22 assists for 50 points in 39 games. He is a +17 with 17 penalty minutes, 17 power play points, two shorthanded points, seven game-winning goals, 101 shots on goal, 125 face-off wins, 39 blocked shots, 20 hits, 17 takeaways and 11 giveaways. Reinhart leads the NHL with 13 power play goals and seven game-winning goals. Reinhart’s inferior points (both goals) resulted from Panthers victories. The first was a 3-1 Panthers victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 19th and the second was a 3-2 Panthers victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 27th.
