A new report from Preszler Injury Lawyers suggests that the Ottawa and Gatineau areas are among the most livable cities in Canada.
The report is based on crime data in each city, including arson, robbery, drunk driving and burglary. The number of offences of each crime was calculated per 100,000 residents using data from the Canada Crime Index, the report said.
Gatineau, Que. ranks third with 318.8 crimes per 100,000 residents.
“Gatineau, Quebec, is among the 10 Canadian cities with the lowest rates of robberies and burglaries,” the report said.
Ottawa ranks fifth with 333.9 crimes per 100,000 residents.
“Ottawa, Ontario, had the third lowest number of drunk driving incidents, with 69.6 crimes. Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario, also had a low arson rate, with 9.9 incidents,” the report said.
While Toronto topped the list of safest cities with 286.9 crimes per 100,000 residents, Lethbridge came last with 1,190 crimes per 100,000 residents. According to the report, the burglary rate in Lethbridge is five times higher than in Toronto.
