Ryan Smyth and Mel Davidson were inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame

According to the Canadian Press On Monday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ryan Smyth of Banff, Alberta, and Melody Davidson of Coronation, Alberta, will be inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. Smyth won a gold medal for Canada in men’s ice hockey 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake Cityand Davidson was the head coach of Team Canada in women’s ice hockey when the team won the gold medal 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and that Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

In addition to winning a gold medal for Team Canada, Smyth also won the gold medal for Canada at the 1995 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Red Deer, Alberta, the 2003 World Ice Hockey Championships in Helsinki, Finland, and the 2004 World Ice Hockey Championships in Prague, Czech Republic and the 2004 World Cup in Toronto. He also captained Team Canada at five Ice Hockey World Championships. Davidson, meanwhile, also led Canada to a gold medal at the 2000 Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship in Mississauga, Ontario, and the 2007 Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Smyth played 90 games for Team Canada. He scored 23 goals and 24 assists for 47 points. Other new additions include Jaromir Jagr, Igor Liba, Jaroslav Pouzar, Natalie Darwitz, Kenny Johnsson and Petteri Nummelin.
