The best soldiers from the framework nations of the eFP gathered in Lithuania. Major General Harald Gante, Commander of Operations in the Army Command, invited the Commanders of the Forward Land Forces (FLF) in the Baltic States. German Brigadier General Christian Nawrat, British Brigadier General Giles Harris and Canadian Colonel Vincent Kirstein also attended the meeting in Rukla, Lithuania, along with military representatives from the armed forces of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. .
The conference participants agreed that this format would be retained in the future. It helps coordinate and harmonize the deterrence and defense of NATO’s eastern flank.
To implement the resolutions of the NATO summit in Madrid in 2022, Germany has created the “3+3 format” within the framework of the “enhanced forward presence (eFP)”. In this format, the three VET framework countries, Great Britain, Canada and Germany, as well as the three guest countries, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, jointly implemented the decisions of the NATO summit in Madrid.
The “3+3 format” intensively exchanges information at different levels – from defense ministers to expert level for certain specialist areas. The following topics are of particular importance: exercises, education and training, financing, logistics and strategic communication.
Major General Gante drew a positive conclusion from the conference: “Together with our international partners, we have established a clearly visible deterrent presence against Russia – along NATO’s eastern flank – over the past years. We agree that together, quickly and able to defend the Baltic states with great combat power.”
