Rogers becomes majority owner of MLSE

A groundbreaking sports transaction took place in Canada on Wednesday. In a massive announcement, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment was sold by Bell Communication to Rogers Communications for a staggering $4.7 billion.

MLSE owns several sports organizations in Toronto. These include the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League, the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association, the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League, the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, Raptors 905 of the NBA G League, Raptors Uprising GC of the NBA 2K League (Esports League), Toronto FC II of the Major League Soccer Next Pro League, Toronto FC Academy of MLS Next (Youth Soccer League), and Toronto FC eSports (eMLS Cup). The Raptors are valued at $4.1 billion, while the Maple Leafs are the richest franchise in the NHL at $2.8 billion.

MLSE also owns Scotiabank Arena, OVO Athletic Centre, Maple Leaf Square, e11even restaurant, Real Sports Bar & Grill and Real Sports Apparel. It should be noted that Rogers Communications already owns Major League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays (valued at $2.1 billion) and Sportsnet, one of Canada’s two national sports television networks.
