Prosecutions for fraud and money laundering

by Edie Jenkins

Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried, former CEO and co-founder of crypto exchange FTX, has pleaded not guilty to charges related to fraud and money laundering.

The former FTX CEO has been charged with seven counts of fraud and money laundering, in addition to violating campaign finance laws. Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty to all charges.

SBF’s defense also raised concerns about his medical needs, saying SBF takes Adderall and is vegan. However, he has not received any medication for the past 11 days. During the trial, SBF’s lawyers also requested a vegan diet for their client.

The lawyers also indicated that their client could not prepare for the trial because he has been in detention since August 11. The lawyers also pointed out that they had been offered “only unrealistic solutions”.

Bankman-Fried appeared in court in New York on August 22 and is accused of misusing client funds for personal gain and political contributions. The fraud and money laundering charges have been pending since December. But earlier this month, prosecutors added other charges of campaign finance law violations.

Bankman-Fried’s bail was recently revoked, prompting SBF to leave the New York courtroom in handcuffs.

Earlier in the week, Bankman-Fried asked the court to spend five days a week outside of police custody to work with his legal team on his defense. A federal judge finally allowed him to appear with his legal team outside of prison to about seven o’clock remains true.
