In the current “DeutschlandTrend”, the AfD is at 18%: almost one in five people say they vote for the right-wing populist party. In East Germany, it is therefore even the strongest party. For political scientist Thorsten Faas of the Freie Universität Berlin, the results of the AfD’s polls are “no reason to suddenly fall into a completely new mode”. It is more relevant “to look at the long lines that draw the polls”. And this shows “that the AfD in the East is playing at least the first place, maybe even the first place. It does something for societies, whether the dominant force there is an AfD or another party. not if a party now goes from 17 to 18 or 19%. »
