The Prime Minister received Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Downing Street tonight following the coronation of His Majesty the King.
The heads of state and government emphasized how special this occasion had been and reflected on their discussions with counterparts from around the world.
Discussing the UK’s recent accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, the Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for his support and both agreed to use the momentum for further bilateral trade talks.
Looking ahead to the G7 in Hiroshima this month, both hailed the strong coordination among the G7 nations in tackling global challenges and praised Japan’s focus on economic resilience during their presidency.
Leaders also discussed how Canada and the UK could deepen cooperation on defense and security technology, including cybersecurity and quantum.
Regarding Ukraine, leaders agreed on the importance of ensuring that Ukraine continues to receive the support it needs for its defense and reconstruction, now and in the years to come. They looked forward to an important NATO summit in Vilnius.
The leaders looked forward to seeing each other at the G7 later this month.
