PITT 8 PREVIEW: Canadian prepares for Pitt 8 tests | Sports

by Horace Rogers

The Cougars prepare for conference fights.

Canadian will compete in the 2023 Pitt 8 Conference Baseball Tournament Thursday through Saturday in Kiowa.

Coach Larry Tucker said he has a young slate of daredevils as the Cougars are ready to face any adversity head-on.

“We have a hungry ball club,” he said.

The Cougars return to the Pitt 8 Tournament after finishing second in a consolation winner against Indianola last year. This year, the young squad continues to build on themselves as they prepare to face off against their Conference brethren.

Canadian has already seen a number of Pitt 8 teams in the regular season this spring, with games against the likes of Kiowa, Indianola and Crowder and a win over Savanna.

But as they are ready to begin tournament play, the Cougars will turn their attention to the opening game against Stuart on Thursday at 4 p.m

As a team, the Cougars offense has racked up more than 20 runs to start the season. Defensively, much of the pitching duties was handled by the likes of TJ Cook and Gabe Hubbard — with the pair notching nearly 30 strikeouts combined.

Tucker has previously spoken about building a young team, saying the key is to take each game as it comes and stay focused on the task at hand – constantly building and working on your craft with every frame.

“Just fight one inning at a time,” he said. “Regardless of the score, just stay competitive in every inning. That is the goal.”
