Philips wired footswitch recalled due to safety issues

by Naomi Parham

Health Canada has issued a recall notice for the wired footswitch used in certain Philips systems due to performance issues identified during the investigation of the complaints.

According to the Announcement from WednesdayThe recalled products pose a potential safety issue, particularly when used with Philips Allura systems.

After evaluating the complaints received, the health authority said it was determined that the wired foot switch may have inconsistent production of X-rays. Such inconsistency could potentially cause the imaging device to malfunction, resulting in delays in diagnosis or interference with medical procedures.

According to the release, the wired footswitch plays a critical role in controlling various functions, including fluoroscopy, exposure settings, as well as other essential functions such as single image acquisition, light control, and switching between x-ray planes (especially for biplane systems). These functions are an integral part of the above Philips systems.

Health Canada issued recalls for a few other products this week.

The Essenta Dr Compact System was among the most recent recalls. The health agency warns that there is a potential cybersecurity risk associated with this product that could potentially lead to unauthorized access, disclosure or alteration of patient information, posing a “significant risk” to patient privacy and data integrity.

Curcumin Ultra Vegan Capsules were also recalled. According to Health Canada, the affected lot’s bottle label may list illegible medicinal ingredients.

The health agency is urging Canadians to first check whether their Curcumin Ultra Vegan capsules are part of the affected batch and then contact the recalling company if they have any further questions.

For more information on the Philips Wired Footswitch and Essenta Dr Compact Digital Radiography System, individuals are encouraged to contact their respective manufacturers for further clarification or details.
