It looks like Michael Block won’t be returning to work for quite some time as he has landed another invite to a PGA Tour event – this time the RBC Canadian Open in June.
The 46-year-old has had a Cinderella story, winning the hearts of golf fans with his run at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill – nearly surpassing Brooks Koepka to win the Wanamaker Trophy for a third time.
The PGA Head Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in California may not be giving golf lessons for $125 per person for a while after an incredible T15 finish at Oak Hill – including that unforgettable hole-in-one.
Block earned $288,333 for his finish at Oak Hill, the best result by a club pro since 1986, a dispensation for next year’s PGA Championship in Valhalla, and clinched the first ace by a club pro at the event since 1996 — and all while playing the final round with Rory McIlroy.
Additionally, he’s become a huge fan and media favorite – leading to his being invited to compete in this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour, meaning that instead of going home to work, he’s going home , a detour to the legendary Colonial Country Club Texas makes.
But Block’s whirlwind success story won’t end in Texas, because the Canadian Open has also jumped on the Block train and invited him to their tournament from June 6th to 11th at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club in Toronto.
It looks like the block party will continue throughout June as golf’s newest superstar has been getting a taste of PGA Tour life for a little longer than expected.
It just goes to show that golf dreams can come true, and that there will be PGA pros across America trying to improve their games for next year’s PGA Championship qualifiers to see if they can follow in his footsteps can.
