PAHO and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Protection work together to strengthen the Expanded Program on Immunization – PAHO / WHO

Asunción, December 13, 2021 (OPS / WHO) As part of the Technical Cooperation of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) in the implementation of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 in Paraguay, 28 motorcycles were delivered to Expanded Program on Immunization (PAI).

The vehicles have their respective protection and safety accessories (helmet, vest, tools) and documentation and were acquired with funds from Canadian cooperation.

During the event, Dr Héctor Castro, director of the Expanded Program on Immunization, thanked PAHO / WHO in Paraguay for this significant cooperation, and explained that these vehicles will facilitate the task of all regions that are implementing the national COVID-19 vaccination plan. In addition, they will be very useful for vaccination with other vaccines as part of the measles, rubella and polio vaccination campaign that the country is implementing, as well as for the strengthening of the regular program.

For her part, Dr Fabiana Michel, Advisor for Integral Family Vaccination of the PAHO / WHO Representation in Paraguay, indicated that she hopes that this donation will contribute to the strengthening of health services and, above all, to the extension of services. vaccination. towards the population living in hard-to-reach communities. ”

This batch of motorcycles is in addition to the 72 that were previously delivered by PAHO / WHO to the EPI, to support vaccination activities against Covid 19 in all health regions of the country.
