The Edmonton Oilers are still in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. On Tuesday, the Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3 in game five of the best-of-seven series. With the win, the Oilers remained in the race for the postseason, but are still three games to two behind the Panthers.

Oilers captain and centre Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario, played arguably the best game of his life. He scored two goals and two assists for four points. One of his assists was a spectacular pass to Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry of New Liskeard, Ontario. Perry won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and that 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Two Canadian Oilers players scored multiple points in a game. The other was defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario, who had three assists.

All five of the Oilers’ goal scorers were Canadians. In addition to McDavid and Perry, the Oilers’ goal scorers were Toronto’s Connor Brown and Zach Hyman. Brown’s goal was an impressive shorthanded goal where he intercepted a Panthers pass at the point in their own zone. Brown then skated down the ice and scored a breakaway goal against Sergei Bobrovsky to open the scoring at 5:30 of the first period. Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals will be back in Edmonton on Friday.
