More than 2,500 nurses dedicate their services to Niagara Health, a record number being recognized during this year’s National Nursing Week, which runs May 8-14.
“The impact our nursing team has on the community and their peers is tremendous,” says Janice Feather, Director of Nursing Practice. “We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to providing safe and compassionate care to patients and their families. Their commitment to exceptional care is inspiring.”
In celebration of Nursing Week, Niagara Health will recognize 25 honorees in nine categories as part of our annual Nursing Excellence Awards, to be announced Thursday, May 11.
“Our nursing team at Niagara Health serves as a role model for all of us in caring for our patients with kindness and compassion,” said Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO. “They have been under enormous pressure in recent years and have dealt with it with the utmost professionalism and dedication. I am grateful for all they do and look forward to recognizing these employees and their accomplishments.”
This year’s Nursing Week theme, developed by the Canadian Nurses Association, is Our nurses. Our future. The theme celebrates the many roles nurses play in a patient’s health journey.
Niagara Falls will be illuminated in blue on Tuesday, May 9 from 10:00 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. to celebrate nurses in the region and around the world. Commissioned by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board can be visited virtually. In addition, on May 8, the City of Welland’s Bridge 13 and Brock University’s Shmon Tower will be illuminated in blue.
About National Nursing Week
National Nursing Week draws attention to nurses and raises awareness among the public, policy makers and governments of nursing’s diverse contributions to the well-being of Canadians. The week is celebrated in Canada each year during the second week of May, which falls on the May 12 birthday of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale.
