May 12, 2023 – Vancouver, BC – Pre-arrival processing services are vital for newcomers to succeed in Canada. They provide newcomers with the information and support they need to make informed decisions about their new life in Canada before they arrive, helping them integrate successfully into their communities and find work faster.
The Honorable Harjit Sajjan, Secretary of State for International Development and Minister in Charge of the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, on behalf of the Honorable Sean Fraser, Secretary of State for Citizenship, Refugees and Immigration, announced today an investment of nearly $12 million to SUCCESS to assist in the implementation of essential services prior to the arrival of new immigrants. This is part of the overall settlement funding extensions announced yesterday.
Minister Sajjan had the opportunity to visit SUCCESS, one of 15 service providers offering information, guidance and recommendations for newcomers. This organization provides online and face-to-face services abroad to newcomers prior to their arrival in Canada, including Canadian workplace information, soft skills development and employment counseling, as well as refugee-tailored services to help them prepare for jobs in Canada.
Investing in pre-arrival services and organizations like SUCCESS is an investment in the newcomers and families who join Canada’s diverse communities, helping them thrive while strengthening Canada’s economy.
