Netflix has spoken about the future of ‘The Squid Game’ series

Ted Sarandos spoke about the future of The Squid Game in an interview with Variety. During the conversation, he was asked if the famous series would have a second season.

“Surely. The Squid Game universe has only just begun,” said a top Netflix manager. However, he did not specify when the second part will be released.

In early November 2021, the series’ creator, director Hwang Dong-hyuk also spoke about the series’ sequel. He stated that the second season will indeed be filmed. Song Gi-hoon, played by actor Lee Jong-jae, will remain the main character. However, Netflix later did not confirm this information, stating that plans to continue the show are still under discussion.

Squid Game, about participants in a secret tournament for survival, was released on Netflix on September 17, 2021. The show became the most popular in the history of the streaming service. netflix won around $900 million, after spending $21.4 million on nine episodes.

The director of the series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, complained that he did not receive any bonus from the company for creating a mega-popular project. However, in the end, Netflix agreed with the show’s creators for additional rewards.

The success of The Squid Game inspired Netflix to invest heavily in South Korean shows. In 2022, the company will invest in 25 projects in this country. The platform has already allocated $500 million to content creation, which includes, among other things, the rental of studios near Seoul.
