National teams of Canada, Panama and El Salvador reach final qualifiers for 2022 World Cup
CONCACAF’s second round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup has taken place.
The Canadian national team defeated Haiti at home with a score of 3: 0 (4: 0 – the total score) and advanced to the third qualifying round. Panama also reached the final stage of the selection by beating the Curaçao team, coached by Guus Hiddink (the total score – 1: 2), and El Salvador, which proved to be stronger than the national team of Saint Kitts and Nevis (6: 0).
In the third qualifying round, Canada, Panama and El Salvador will join the top five ranked teams: Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras. The teams will play in a group and meet in a format each at home and away. According to the results of the draw, the top three teams will receive direct tickets to the 2022 World Cup, and the fourth will participate in the intercontinental play-offs.
Earlier, in the first qualifying leg, Canada took first place in the group along with Suriname, Bermuda, Aruba and the Cayman Islands. Panama became the first of the group with the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Dominica and Anguilla. El Salvador’s national team came out of first place in the group along with teams from Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and the US Virgin Islands.
