A mysterious neurological syndrome is spreading in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. According to the Canadian site Global News, the subject hit the headlines when journalist Leyland Cecco of the British newspaper The Guardian, published the complaint that the neurological problem was spreading in New Brunswick’s French health network, Vitalité.

The reporter spoke with a witness, Steve Ellis, who said the father was among 48 potential cases of the mysterious illness. “We need support. We need people linked to Vitalité. This is crucial because they are sharing things that we don’t know, ”Ellis told The Guardian, as quoted by Global News.

The witness complains that the New Brunswick government does not want to know what is making his father and dozens of other people sick. “I think they’re trying to protect what makes money for the province,” he says.

Neurologist Neil Cashman, professor at University of British Columbia, who is part of the New Brunswick Neurological Syndrome Research Team cited by the Canadian website, says all potential factors, including diet and environmental interference, are under investigation.

A spokesperson for Canada’s provincial health ministry told Global News that nothing will be said until a report from the investigation committee is finalized and made public, which is expected in the coming weeks.

“The Department of Health believes that any prior comment on this investigation, including rumors from unidentified sources in the media, would be inappropriate,” Department of Health communications director Bruce Macfarlane told the Canadian website. .

Regarding the committee’s report, Steve Ellis told The Guardian on Sunday that he was not optimistic about new information coming into the issue.

“I’m afraid this report will sweep the issue further under the rug,” he said, quoted by Global News.

This commission is made up of six neurologists, representatives of health networks Vitality e Horizon and a representative of the Ministry of Health.

the strange syndrome

The disease was first reported in 2021 and since then the cases under investigation have remained at 48. However, several Canadian news sources say the affected group could reach 150 people, the Indian website reports. Wion.

The condition primarily affects young adults with no prior health issues. Some of the main symptoms associated with neurological syndrome include rapid weight loss, insomnia, hallucinations, difficulty thinking, and limited mobility.

Many symptoms suggest that environmental factors may have contributed to the disease, Wion explains. One suspected case included a man who developed symptoms of dementia and ataxia (difficulty in motor coordination). It was then observed that his wife, who was also his caregiver, suddenly began to suffer from insomnia and show muscle wasting, dementia and hallucinations.
