Montreal restaurants dominate Canada’s 100 Best list, including top picks

by Ainsley Ingram

Montreal restaurants dominate Canada’s top 100 restaurants list with 27 restaurants in the annual ranking, led by Mon Lapin at #1.

The list of exceptional restaurants in 2024 includes several Michelin-starred restaurants, including Toronto’s contemporary French favorite Alo at number two, Vancouver’s locally prepared Published on Main at number three, and Toronto’s Edulis at number four.

Published on Main previously ranked first on the Best Restaurants 2022 list.

Toronto is home to 18 of the hotspots, including double-Michelin-starred sushi Masaki Saito at number 19. Vancouver has 15 restaurants on the list — including four in the top 10 — Ottawa has eight, Calgary has seven and Halifax can boast boast with four.

Editor-in-Chief Jacob Richler and the team behind the rankings also announced their top 10 best new restaurants, led by Toronto’s Prime Seafood Palace.

Now in its ninth year, the gastronomic catalog celebrates the country’s best eateries, chosen by 135 judges for their reputation and knowledge of the culinary scene.

Officials say judges are not given instructions on where to go and what to eat, and no free meals will be accepted.

This year’s judges included Top Chef Canada judge Mijune Pak, Vancouver food critic Mia Stainsby and celebrity chef Michael Smith.

The list of the top 100 restaurants includes two each from Quebec City, Winnipeg, Edmonton, St. John’s, NL and Whistler, BC, while the remaining entries are spread across smaller communities across the country.
