Janibek Alimkhanuly destroyed Steven Butler within two rounds and retained the WBO middleweight title – before challenging Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo as he challenged boxing’s best to square off against him.

Kazakh fighter Alimkhanuly increased his record to 14-0 with a career ninth knockout, knocking down the Canadian Butler three times in quick succession, his dominance being triggered by a powerful left uppercut.

Butler managed to stay on his feet after that first shot, but fell after a series of more left hands, and referee Jack Reiss waved it off after Butler hit the canvas twice more.

Butler landed two punches in the entire fight compared to his opponent’s 25 punches as he was completely dominated by a man who proclaimed himself the ‘middleweight king’.

“Champions and the boxing superstars, where are you?” Alimkhanuly narrated ESPN. “I’m waiting. Let’s fight.”

“I’m the boxer you avoid the most. I’m the middleweight king. Let’s fight. Top Rank, who’s next?

Elsewhere on the program: at Stockton Arena in California, Australia Jason Moloney suggested Vincent Astrolabio of the Philippines to secure the vacant WBO bantamweight title.

Moloney had lost previous full world title fights to Emmanuel Rodriguez in 2018 and Naoya Inoue in 2020, but triumphed on the third time despite sustaining what he believed to be a broken hand in the first quarter of the fight.

The 32-year-old said: “It hurt every time I threw it. But I knew this was my last chance to make my dream come true.”

Moloney’s record now stands at 26-2.
