From January to March 2022, the arrival of 5 million 22,000 international tourists by plane to Mexico, according to their nationality, which represents an increase of 138.5% compared to 2021, and there are still 7.0% to reach arrivals in 2019, reports the Federal Secretary of Tourism (Sectur), Miguel Torruco Marques.
He pointed out that the main countries in international tourist arrivals during this period were: United States, Canada and Colombia, with 3 million 881 thousand visitors; that’s 131.8% more than 2021, or 2.1% to reach what was picked up in 2019, a statement reports.
He indicated that during the first quarter of the year, the arrival of Americans by air reached 3 million 185 thousand, 101.2% more than in 2021, when 1,583,000 tourists arrived, also exceeding 2,792,000 by 14.1%. Americans which happened in 2019.
The arrival of Canadians between January and March 2022 was 510 thousand 811 tourists; this is 1,445.7% more than in 2021; being 51.3% of reaching the one million 50 thousand tourists captured in 2019.
He pointed out that in the first three months of the year, the arrival of Colombians by air was 185 thousand 78 tourists, which represents an increase of 216.8% compared to 2021, when 58 thousand 416 visitors arrivedand also exceeding the 121,000,860 tourists who arrived in 2019, which represents 51.9%.
The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that the airports of Cancun, AICM and Los Cabos were those that received the greatest number of international tourists, capturing 3 million 821 thousand international tourists, or 134.1% more than in 2021; it is only 5.0% short of what was seen in 2019, when 4 million 24 thousand international tourists arrived.
