La Paz, Baja California Sur. (OEM-Informex) .- In the Elite category, Mexican triathletes Irving Pérez and Lizeth Rueda imposed conditions and were proclaimed champions of the Eighth Pan American World Cup Triahthlon as part of the “Triathlon La Paz 2021”, organized with great success this Saturday in the capital of Southern California, an event in which 1,300 competitors participated in different categories and modalities.
In the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) of the Elite category in the male and female branches, the participation of 65 triathletes from 10 countries was confirmed, representing the States United, Canada, Panama, Tahiti, Costa Rica, Serbia, Brazil, Puerto Rico and host Mexico.
The starting shot was in charge of the president of the SEDIF of Baja California Sur, Patricia López Navarro on behalf of the governor Víctor Castro Cosío, accompanied by the municipal president, Milena Quiroga Romero and the president of the Mexican Triathlon Federation, Jaime Cadaval Baeza, as well as Gilberto Garciglia Higuera, director of the Institute of Sports of Southern California (INSUDE) and Guillermo Ortalejo Hernández, director of municipal sports of La Paz.
The Elite competition started with the kick off at 2:30 p.m., in the Malecón area at Manuel Márquez de León street, swimming to the Malecón kiosk, taking the bike in the transition area to complete the route by returning to this point for the start of the race and arrival in the finish area.
In the Elite Men, Mexico did 1-2-3 with an excellent performance from Irving Pérez Pineda with a time of 1 hour, 45 minutes and 40 seconds, reaching second place with an excellent finish from the three-time Olympian, Crisanto Grajales. Valencia on “Black Diamond”, who had a record of 1:46:07, finishing third Aram Peñaflor with 1:46:24, managing to reach the podium by beating the Japanese Kyotaro Yoshikawa and the Canadian Hoel Brock, who until in the race remained in the first three places.
On the women’s side, Mexican Lizeth Rueda Santos with a time of 2 hours, 01 minutes and 25 seconds, finished in style to finally beat Minori Ikeno of Japan with a record of 2:02:14 and the third place crossed the goal Emy Legault from Canada with 2:02:39.
At the end of the Elite competition, the award ceremony took place, which was in charge of Fátima Avilés Camacho, director of La Paz Tourism Trust and the municipal director of sports, Guillermo Ortalejo Hernández, who were responsible for delivering the medals to the winners of the first three places in the men’s and women’s branches of the Elite category.

The “La Paz Triathlon 2021” is the ninth date of the Serial Premiun of the Mexican Triathlon Federation this year and the National Olympic Championship, while for the age categories it is a selective competition to be part of the national team that will participate in the 2022 Triathlon World Championship.
During the development of the event along the Malecón area of Márquez de León street in Molinito, thousands of people were present, who enjoyed the competition and supported the competitors at all times.
