Meghan Markle has revealed how she hosted a pool party this summer with Canada’s First Lady Sophie Trudeau where the two were “laughing like schoolgirls” during her latest podcast episode.
The Duchess of Sussex, 41, who currently lives in her $14million mansion in California, released the seventh show in her Archetypes series today, describing guest Sophie as “a dear friend”.
During the introduction, the royal mother-of-two described how she hosted the event at her home in Santa Barbara earlier this year, adding that it was a chance to ‘get the kids together, drink wine, swim’ .
She described how she bought an “inflatable slice of pizza online” which the family “splashed over” calling it “a big hit”.
According to the bombshell biography Finding Freedom, when she started dating Harry in 2016, Meghan was told to take Sophie’s advice by her friend Jessica Mulroney, who felt the two women “now had a lot in common”.
Meghan Markle has revealed how she hosted a pool party this summer with Canada’s First Lady Sophie Trudeau where the two were “laughing like schoolgirls” during her latest podcast episode.
Starting the podcast today, Meghan said: ‘Last summer a friend of mine was in town with her kids for a few days.
“Now that was very exciting for me because I hadn’t seen her in a while, and the idea of our kids reuniting, it was such a treat – [to] swim and drink wine.
“We dove in the water and then threw pool floats.
‘By the way, the inflatable, slice pizza turned out to be a big hit, which I found online.

“And I’m kidding you, the one without pepperoni was a few dollars less than the one with pepperoni.
‘And yes, I’m still talking about the inflatable Pizza, float for the pool. We all had a good laugh about it.
She continued, “But all that aside, it wasn’t our day when we were wives and mothers.
“All perfectly doused with chignons, pearls and demure smiles.”
“It was the other version of the two of us with wild curly hair and bathing suits and loose laundry and huge belly laughs, big hugs with our little ones.
“And whispers of girls on the terrace, like real schoolgirls.”
“We were having so much fun.”
Meghan then revealed that she was talking about an event with Sophie, whom she has known for several years before joining the royal family.
Elsewhere she described how she had ‘gone to Sophie for advice’ over the years, having met ‘seven years ago’.
According to Finding Freedom, Meghan befriended the First Lady in 2016.

“Sophie had given up a career in television, where she worked as a correspondent on CTV’s eTalk, to take on a more formal role alongside her husband as he embarked on the campaign trail,” the authors claim.
“The couple quickly became friends over email, Meghan was interested to learn how Sophie managed to go from entertainment news correspondent to beloved First Lady, while deftly avoiding controversy.”
A close friend of Trudeau and former Cabinet member told Scobie and Durand: “Sophie would have made it clear that every aspect of Meghan’s past would be unearthed, so the most important thing was to be honest with Harry – tell him everything.
“Sophie is a smart woman and the perfect brain for Meghan. She knows how difficult something like this is. Few can understand or truly sympathize. For those of us who knew about their friendship, it was amazing to see the change in Meghan that followed.
Earlier that year, Meghan and Sophie were pictured in a series of photobooth images with Jessica taken at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) at Soho House in Toronto – where Meghan lived while filming Suits.
In January 2020, there was speculation that Justin Trudeau might have given a cryptic hint on Twitter about Meghan and Harry leaving the Royal Family.
Diplomatic sources said Mr Trudeau and his wife Sophie were consulted on the decision late last year, in front of members of the Royal Family and even the Queen.
Prince Harry and Mr Trudeau have always sought to enjoy each other’s company at events such as Commonwealth commemorations. The two have also met several times during Harry’s Invictus games for service members with disabilities.
