Dallas Stars goaltender Matt Murray of St. Albert, Alberta, suffered his first National Hockey League shutout of his career on Monday. He achieved this feat in the Dallas Stars’ 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Murray made 23 saves for the shutout.

Murray made 12 saves in the first period, nine in the second period and just two in the third period. Brock Faber led the Wild with four shots on goal. On offense, Tyler Seguin of Brampton, Ont., led the Stars with two points (one goal and one assist).

It should be noted that this is not the same Matt Murray of Thunder Bay, Ontario, who won two Stanley Cups as an NHL goaltender with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. From 2015 to 2023, Matt Murray had 15 shutouts with the Penguins, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. He will miss most of this season while recovering from bilateral hip surgery.

For the Stars’ Matt Murray, this was just his fourth NHL game in two seasons and his second NHL win. Previously, Murray made 19 saves on 21 shot attempts in Dallas’ 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on March 2. This was also Murray’s first NHL game of the season.

With the win, the Stars improved to a record of 23 wins, 11 regulation losses and five overtime losses, for 51 points. They are in third place in the Central Division.
