Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba recorded his first hat trick of the National Hockey League regular season on Monday. He accomplished the feat for the Vegas Golden Knights in a 4-1 Golden Knights victory over the Nashville Predators at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. For Stone, the Golden Knights captain, he previously had two postseason hat tricks in the National Hockey League.
Stone scored the first goal at 15:25 of the first period through defenseman Nicolas Hague of Kitchener, Ont., and Pavel Dorofeyev. He then gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead when Chandler Stephenson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Dorofeyev scored the game-winning goal at 1:11 of the second period. Stone then scored off Stephenson with 24 seconds left in the second period to give the Golden Knights a 3-1 lead.
Two Canadians scored for the Golden Knights on Monday. The other Canadian scorer in Vegas was Jonathan Marchessault of Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Stone was one of two Canadians with a multi-point game for the Golden Knights. The other was Stephenson with two assists.
In the 2023/24 season, Stone scored 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points in 44 games. He is a +1 with 20 penalty minutes, 13 power play points, three shorthanded points, five game-winning goals, 26 blocked shots, 21 hits, 49 takeaways and 22 giveaways.
Stone’s first postseason hat trick came on April 14, 2019, in the Golden Knights’ 6-3 win over the San Jose Sharks. It was game three of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Stone’s second postseason hat trick came on June 13, 2023 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers 9-3.
With the win, the Golden Knights improved to a record of 25 wins, 14 regulation losses and five overtime losses. They have 55 points and are in second place in the Pacific Division.
