The Ottawa Redblacks defeated the British Columbia Lions 34-27 on Saturday at Toronto Dominion Place in Ottawa, Ontario. A major reason for the Redblacks’ success was the play of Canadian wide receiver Nick Mardner from Mississauga, Ontario.

Mardner caught his first two touchdown passes in the Canadian Football League. The first was 64 yards, the second 22 yards. Both touchdowns were caught by quarterback Dru Brown.

Both of Mardner’s touchdown catches came in the third quarter. The first touchdown came 48 seconds into the second half and gave the Redblacks an 18-17 lead at that point. Ottawa scored the two points and took the lead (20-17) with a field goal when Brown threw a pass to Ryquell Armstead.

Mardner’s second touchdown came five minutes and 54 seconds before the end of the third quarter. At the time of the converted touchdown, the Redblacks were ahead 27-17.

In the game, Mardner had three catches for 95 yards. On the season, Mardner has 14 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

The Redblacks currently sit second in the East Division with seven wins, two losses and one tie (15 points). In fact, they have the second-best record in the entire CFL. Only the reigning Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes are better with 10 wins and one loss (20 points).
