NEW DELHI: An Indian-origin man in Canada has landed in trouble over a video showing him getting free food from Canadian food banks for students. As the video went viral, some social media users criticised Mehul Prajpati for getting free food despite having a well-paying job.

One of the social media users tagged the video and claimed that the Prajapati in question worked at a reputed company in Canada, TD Bank, where the average annual salary was $98,000. The same user later claimed in another post that Prajapati was fired from the company because of the video.

However, Prajapati’s family members denied these reports and claimed that he was a student without a job. He was only doing an internship with the company and his internship ended in December last year, they said.


The social media post showing the company’s response read: “Thank you for bringing the video to our attention. The alleged action and messages captured in the video do not align with TD’s values ​​or culture of care. I can confirm that the individual named in the video no longer works at TD.”

The post did not mention that the man was fired because of the video.
