According to the National Hockey League On Monday, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia, was named the NHL First Star of the Week for the week of March 4-10, 2024. In three games, he scored three goals and seven assists for 10 points. MacKinnon led all players in assists and points last week.
MacKinnon was also a +7 with three power play points, a game-winning goal, 20 shots on goal, a blocked shot, a goal and 29 faceoff wins. He began the week with two goals and two assists for four points in the Avalanche’s 5-0 shutout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on March 4. MacKinnon scored the game-winning goal in Colorado’s shutout win against Chicago. MacKinnon scored an All-Canadian goal against Devon Toews of Abbotsford, British Columbia and Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta. He then scored a goal and three assists for four points in Colorado’s 7-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on March 6 and two assists in the Avalanche’s 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on March 8.
This season, MacKinnon leads the NHL with 111 points. He also has 40 goals, 71 assists, is +25 with 34 penalty minutes, 39 power play points, eight game-winning goals, 316 shots on goal, 480 face-off wins, 564 blocked shots, 49 hits, 32 takeaways and 65 giveaways.
