The singer Ludmilla moves the Internet by taking a stand against the appointment policy of Multishow Award. Feeling that she was not recognized and appreciated by the award, the singer canceled her performance at the event. For Ludmilla, the decision not to mention her in the Singer of the Year category ignores the scope of her work (proven by the numbers) and the social minorities she represents: black, funkeira, bisexual and peripheral.
The episode is unprecedented in the history of Brazilian awards, but not in international awards. Artists want works that are recognized for the value they have, and they don’t hesitate to speak out if that doesn’t happen. The positions are supported by fans and spectators who, year after year, demand more severely the approach of social and progressive agendas in the nominations, in order to be truly represented at the awards.
The most intense recent case is that of The weekend. The musician was the author of the biggest hits of the year, with an emphasis on the mega-bit Blinding lights, which broke records only achieved by the The Beatles. However, the Canadian was not nominated in any category during the 63rd edition of Grammy Awards, and expressed outrage on social media, saying the award was still “corrupt” and discrediting black performers.
