The test continued the tradition of promoting thinking about current issues and valuing science.
The first phase of Vestibular Unicamp 2022 took place this Sunday (7), without complications. Abstention at this point was 7.7%, the lowest in eight years. Of the 62,398 candidates, 58,425 candidates participated. The test was applied in 36 cities across the country and addressed current issues, emphasizing contextualization and reading. Official comments will be made available by Standing Entrance Examinations Commission (Comvest) on Wednesday November 10.
” Everything went very well. We can say that taking an entrance exam like this is a way to restore hope to the university ”, underlined the coordinator of Comvest, professor José Alves Neto.
Regarding the low abstention rate, the lowest since 2014, the professor specifies that one of the reasons would be the students’ confidence in passing the entrance examination, perhaps linked to the adjustments to the test made by Comvest. Due to the pandemic context, since the last edition, there has been a reduction from 90 to 72 questions. The duration of the exam has also been increased by one hour this year.
Test valued contextualization and reading
The test of the first phase consisted of 72 multiple-choice questions, divided between the areas of Portuguese language and Portuguese-language literature, mathematics, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology and English. In the questions, contextualization and reading were valued. For the Comvest coordinator, this was a way to reduce existing inequalities in education in Brazil.
The test continued the tradition of promoting thinking about current issues and valuing science. “Our test is the face of the university, a dynamic, contemporary, topical university, which seeks to respond to the major challenges of our country and to help promote science, technology, education, culture and health and all the good principles that academia can offer Brazilian society, ”says José Alves.
Comvest’s academic coordinator, Prof. Márcia Rodrigues de Souza explains that the questions touched on relevant themes for social debate from the point of view of different disciplines. Indigenous memory, refuge, gasoline prices, vaccines, fake news and biomes were some of the themes. “These are themes that are discussed at school, but we try to link these themes to concrete social demands,” he explains.
The test also aimed to explore relationships between texts, challenging candidates to find relationships of intertextuality, comparison and contrast, and worked with moving themes between disciplines. “Themes that would classically be addressed in one discipline have been addressed in others”, specifies the academic coordinator of Comvest. In an English test question, for example, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was themed through a poem by Palestinian poet and activist Rafeef Ziadah.
