EDMONTON –

More than 48,000 tickets for the Canada-Mexico qualifier for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar have been sold, Canada Soccer announced on Sunday.

The crucial game, which takes place Tuesday night at Commonwealth Stadium, will determine whether Canada will go undefeated in the CONCACAF Octagon this year with four wins and three draws.

It was mission accomplished for the Canadian men’s soccer team on Friday when they beat Costa Rica 1-0. According to Canada Soccer, 48,806 supporters filled the Commonwealth to see the victory.

Mexico, the United States, Canada, Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, El Salvador and Honduras meet twice, at home and away, and the top three teams will automatically qualify for the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022.

The fourth-placed team will compete in the playoffs against teams from South America, Asia and Oceania.

Canada remains in third place in the CONCACAF qualifying standings, with the United States leading the qualifying series.

Mexico are hoping to bounce back from their first loss in the qualifying series. On Friday, they played in Cincinnati against the United States Men’s National Team and lost 2-0.

Led by Tata Martino, Mexico are tied with the United States in terms of points – with 14 – but are in second place because of the number of goals scored.

Tickets for Tuesday night’s game are on sale online and start at $ 20.
