The team has confirmed that Jack Doohan will be behind the wheel of the Alpine A524 in the first free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Australian will replace Esteban Ocon in the opening practice session in Montreal. It will be his fifth time driving for the team in an F1 weekend. It follows his first FP1 appearance at the Mexico City Grand Prix in 2022 and three further appearances in Mexico and Abu Dhabi in ’22 and ’23.

Speaking about the opportunity, Doohan said he was very excited at the prospect of tackling the famous Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for the first time this weekend.

“I am really looking forward to taking to the track in Montreal for FP1. It will be my first time at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and I am excited about it. I am grateful to the team for the opportunity to spend more time on track and also to familiarise myself with the 2024 machinery early in the season.

“This will also help me with my work in the simulator, especially in the European rounds. I will focus on doing the best for the team and making the most of the training for both drivers, looking at certain test elements and understanding the new track surface.”

Doohan finished the 2023 FIA Formula 2 season third in the drivers’ standings after another comeback in the second half of the season.

Driving for Invicta Virtuosi Racing, the Alpine Academy reserve driver took three race wins, all in feature races, as well as two further podium finishes. Including his first season in 2022, he took a total of six F2 wins during his time in the championship, as well as five pole positions and eleven podium finishes.
