Intel defeats VLSI Technology in a $3.1 billion patent case

April 21 (Reuters) – A US jury ruled on Wednesday in a patent infringement lawsuit filed by VLSI Technology LLC against Intel Corp (INTC.O).

VLSI, a unit of hedge fund Fortress Investment Group, sued Intel in April 2019, alleging that products with “Speed ​​Shift” technology infringed patents assigned to it.

VLSI had sought $3.1 billion in damages.

The verdict was reached by a federal jury in Waco, Texas.

VLSI’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Intel’s attorney declined to comment.

This comes after another Waco jury on March 2 ordered Intel to pay VLSI $2.18 billion for infringing on two other patents once owned by Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI.O). . Continue reading

Intel is seeking a new trial in this case and has announced that it will appeal the $2.18 billion judgment.

A third trial using a similar patented technology is planned for June.
