It separates 42 hundredths from the American winner Brittany Bowe. Wiklund was just three tenths from a podium spot when she clocked a time of 1.52.47 and the best record. It was 14 hundredths faster than when she recently set a Norwegian record in Salt Lake City.

The 21-year-old from Oslo won a sensational World Cup gold in the 1,500 meters last winter. She will be a candidate for the Norwegian medal at the Beijing Olympics in February.

In the men’s 1000 meters, Håvard Holmefjord Lorentzen was fourth. He finished in 1.07.11 and was 45% behind Chinese winner Ning Zhongyan. Also a week ago, Lorentzen finished fourth in the distance.

Allan Dahl Johansson arrived at 1.07.99 and was number 14.

Earlier on Sunday, Bjørn Magnussen was the fastest in Group B over 500 meters. With a time of 34.36, the man from Trøndelag set the best record, and he broke Russian world record holder Pavel Kulizhnikov by three hundredths of a second. The two went together.

The 23-year-old lowered his personal best by 13 hundredths. He clocked a better time than reigning Olympic champion Lorentzen in Group A on Canadian ice.

The Bergen native got off to a rocky start and also failed to secure a good finish. Lorentzen shook his head when 34.65 came to the light panel. He only occupied 19th place. He finished 74/100 seconds behind Russian winner Viktor Mushtakov.

Lorentzen did better on the double distance a few hours later.
