Half of Canadian households plan to attend Halloween this year, according to a new survey.
The Maru Public Opinion poll found that people will either go trick-or-treating or stay behind to hand out candy to children.
Of those surveyed, those from Atlantic Canada were the most likely to celebrate the holiday at 71 per cent, while those from Quebec were the least likely to celebrate the holiday at just 38 per cent.
Younger Canadians aged 18 to 34 mostly provided a “spiritual presence” to the door-to-door tradition.
Here in Toronto, trick-or-treaters have to contend with a somewhat cool evening. CityNews 680 meteorologist Jill Taylor says the forecast for Halloween evening is for temperatures around 2°C, with the wind feeling closer to -5°C.
“Dress warmly,” Taylor said. “It’s just a very light wind, but enough to give us that rough feeling when we’re out with the kids. You will definitely need the extra layers under or over your costume.”
This survey was conducted between September 18 and 19, 2023 among a random sample of 1,543 Canadian adults who are Maru Voice Canada panelists. The probability sample of this size has an estimated margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent, 19 out of 20.
