General Motors’ defense division formed a Canadian company as part of its expansion to target international programs and strengthen its ability to support the modernization of Canada’s military.
GM Defense announced Thursday that it is incorporating GM Defense Canada, joining GM Defense International, which it formed in 2022.
“The establishment of a Canadian Defense Force underscores our commitment to Canada and our belief that our engineering and manufacturing capabilities here in Canada can help modernize the Canadian Defense Forces,” said Marissa West, President of GM Canada.
GM Defense recently attended the Canadian Association of the Defense and Security Industries exhibition and demonstrated a Chevrolet Silverado-based prototype and two variants of the deployed Chevrolet Colorado ZR2-based infantry squad vehicle.
GM Defense said it may establish more units in other countries, and its current focus remains North America, across Europe, the Indo-Pacific and across the Middle East.
