For more than ten years, Georges St-Pierre has been one of the biggest names in Ultimate. The Canadian, who still holds the record for welterweight title defenses with nine, has reigned in the category and has seen historic fights. But, according to the ex-Ultimate fighter, he has a special fight he cherishes in his memory.
In an interview with BT Sport, GSP chose the rematch against Matt Serra at UFC 83 as his favorite fight of his career. The clash took place in December 2007 and the Canadian will meet his last executioner, who took the division belt from him the same year. St-Pierre stressed the importance this clash had in the history of MMA and, especially for him, as he fought in front of his fans.
“There are so many (memories), but number one is when I beat Matt Serra in Montreal because it was at a time when the sport was not well accepted by the media and, in from that evening everything changed. And it was a great opportunity for me to introduce myself to all my family and friends, ”revealed the 40-year-old Canadian.
Georges St-Pierre has one of the most successful careers in MMA history. Over his career in the sport, the Canadian has competed in 28 fights, won 26, lost two and won the UFC welterweight and middleweight belt. The last appearance of “GSP” in the Octagon was in 2017 and his main triumphs were against BJ Penn (twice), Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Johny Hendricks, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck (twice), Matt Hughes (twice), Michael Bisping and Nick Diaz.
