This has never happened before! The Formula 1 race weekend in Canada started with a crazy breakdown. And that immediately caused the termination of the first session.

The first Formula 1 free practice sessions in Montreal lasted just over four minutes. Suddenly there was a completely startling red flag. The session was terminated and could not be continued despite all attempts. Technology has gone on strike!

Then it was announced: CCTV cameras all along the route had failed. The race director sat in front of black screens. This was deemed too great a security risk and FP1 was suspended. Efforts were made behind the scenes to bring the problem under control. Vain. Much to the chagrin of many teams, time kept ticking – and time was running out.

Precisely because all the Formula 1 teams except Ferrari had come to Canada with new updates, the first free practice session was very important for them. But because according to the regulations there must be a gap of two and a half hours between FP1 and FP2, the clock could not be stopped.
