According to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger, the Calgary Flames will name Craig Conroy as their new general manager this week.
Conroy has been assistant general manager of the Flames since 2014 and has worked in the front office since retiring after the 2010-11 season.
Conroy, 51, who spent portions of nine seasons in two stints with the Flames during his playing career, will replace Brad Treliving in the role of general manager.
Treliving and the Flames parted ways at the end of this season after nearly a decade working with the organization.
Don Maloney is the Flames’ president of hockey operations and the current interim general manager.
TSN’s Salim Valji reports that the search for general managers was very “thorough” with an initial list of nearly 40 candidates. An official announcement regarding Conroy is expected on Tuesday, Valji says.
Valji adds that Conroy’s hiring “clearly” opens the door for Flames legend Jarome Iginla to rejoin the organization in an official capacity.
A native of Potsdam, New York, Conroy scored 97 goals and provided 211 assists in 507 games for the Flames. He also had seven goals and 15 assists in 45 Calgary playoff games, culminating in his 2004 Stanley Cup Finals.
Conroy captained the Flames in the 2002-03 season.
During his career, Conroy had 182 goals and 360 assists in 1,009 games for the Flames, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Kings.
Calgary missed the 2022-23 postseason with a 38-27-17 record, resulting in the firing of head coach Darryl Sutter.
Dreger adds that the Toronto Maple Leafs will “get serious” about finding a general manager after parting ways with Kyle Dubas last week.
