Tyson Venegas is just a few steps away from becoming the next “American Idol” after his powerful rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life” secured him a top 10 spot.

According to an update published on the singing competition’s official Twitter page on Monday, May 1, the Filipino-Canadian crooner was among the contestants who made the top 10.

Also among the lucky hopefuls are We Ani, Warren Peay, Haven Madison, Colin Stough, Marybeth Byrd, Oliver Steele, Zachariah Smith, Megan Danielle and Iam Tongi.

Lucy Love and Nutsa Buzaladze, on the other hand, were eliminated from the competition.

The “Idol” contender wowed audiences and judges with a jazzier twist on the classic Stevie Wonder track before breaking into the top 10.

However, feedback from judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan was not shown in the singer’s performance video.

Following his recent milestone, Venegas took to Instagram to say his journey towards his “Idol” dream isn’t over yet.

“ROCKED tonight. I made @americanidol’s #Top10 but it’s not over yet,” he said in the post, as he shared a photo of himself making a “peace sign.” “Thank you for your support and your votes. I’m really here for all of you and I hope you all enjoy our performances!”

Venegas first gained recognition after participating in the second season of The Voice Teens in 2020 where he was part of the Apl De Ap team. it
