Still, the spark was kindled by Glimt supporters a long time ago, and with two hours to go into the game there were already many dressed in yellow in the away section.
Around 1,500 supporters traveled to Rome to support the yellow jerseys.
The NRK boarded one of the fan buses on the way to the stadium, and the buses were escorted by police on the way to the Stadio Olimpico.
Here awaits a completely different Rome team – and probably resistance – than was the case in Bodø in October.
Mourinho made no secret of how unhappy he was with the 6-1 loss.
The Portuguese started by pointing fingers at himself, but the 58-year-old went on to say he “overestimates” his players.
Glimt was better than Roma second team, according to Mourinho, who has repeated his dissatisfaction on several occasions in recent weeks – most recently on Wednesday.
Four players of the match, Amadou Diawara, Borja Mayoral, Bryan Reynolds and Gonzalo Villar, have since been excluded from the squad.
On Thursday, however, they are back, according to the sports newspaper. Corriere dello Sport, which has its headquarters in Rome.
– Maybe more “jerk”
Saltnes does not believe that a similar approach from the manager would be possible at Bodø.
– No, I don’t think there are many coaches around the world who could have talked like that outside of him. I’m happy to have my coach (Kjetil Knutsen), and I hope to have this type of coach throughout my career, Saltnes tells NRK.
Saltnes is long-term injured and out of action for the Roma game, but the 28-year-old is still present in the capital to provide what he can.
The 28-year-old expects a Roma team to fall from the starting blocks on Thursday evening.
He believes Mourinho will use the giant bang for what it’s worth before the start.
– It will probably be a motivation, yes. This is to be expected. They will probably rub it before the game to try to ignite a spark in the players. Then we will see how it goes. It’s an added dimension that they may be a little more mentally “fragile” after such an experience, says Saltnes.
Daniele Carboni will comment on Thursday’s game for Sports sound center.
He points out that Mourinho still has a big star in Rome, but he doesn’t think Mourinho can continue the hard line if the results aren’t forthcoming.
– He is very popular. He was like a god for the first 5-6 games. Then he lost to Lazio, Juventus and AC Milan. Questions began to arise. Now the criticism has started to come in, says Carboni, who describes the 6-1 loss as shameful for Roma fans and the press.
Spreads out in yellow
There are around 1,500 Glimt supporters visiting Rome.
On Thursday morning, the charge began at the Shamrock pub, a stone’s throw from the mighty Colosseum.
Here is a good mix of optimists and realists.
– 3-1 to Glimt. I still don’t think they realized how good Glimt is. They don’t take us seriously, says Birger Hveding.
However, he obtains the opposition of his friend Henrik Østensen.
– Losing last is the best motivation they can get, says Østensen.
Saltnes also believes Roma will take it by storm, but the 28-year-old will be hoping Glimt will try to play his own game longer.
– I think Rome starts in a hundred. Hope we dare to play as much as possible because the more we play the less they can handle it. I don’t think they’re ready for us to dominate the game. Hopefully we can do it, and then we’ll see, said Saltnes.
– Should Glimt try to surprise?
– No, Glimt will try to play Glimt football. If they’re still surprised at what that looks like, they haven’t done their homework, says Saltnes, smiling.
