Today, fans of the late folk singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot have the opportunity to pay tribute to him in his hometown of Orillia, Ontario.
A public visitation for the musician will be held at St. Paul’s United Church from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Lightfoot died Monday at the age of 84 and tributes have been pouring in from around the world ever since.
The actor was known for his poetic and poignant lyrics to songs like “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and “If You Could Read My Mind.”
After Lightfoot’s death, residents of Orillia began placing flowers at two memorials to the singer around town. And on Saturday, a previously planned concert honoring his career at the Orillia Opera House was turned into a celebration of his life and career.
Lightfoot’s family says condolences can be left at mundellfuneralhome.com, where service details will be posted.
A condolence book can also be signed at Toronto’s Massey Hall, a venue where Lightfoot has performed frequently throughout his career. It will be available from 10am to 3pm
Lightfoot’s private funeral will be held in Orillia at a later date, where he will be buried next to his parents.
