So far, Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba has shown great resilience heading into the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Heats in Calgary. On Friday, Curling Canada announced that Einarson lead Briane Harris was ineligible, and on Saturday, Team Canada improved to a record of two wins and zero losses after a 7-4 win over Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville.
It was a strong start for Einarson’s team, which now has Krysten Karwacki of Winnipeg, Manitoba at the helm. She took a 3-0 lead in the second period and stole three points. In the ninth round, Einarson’s team prevailed with a 6-4 lead and won by three points.
So far, Team Canada is one of three teams with a perfect record of two wins and zero losses. The other two are Alberta and Saskatchewan. Alberta defeated Prince Edward Island 8-3 on Saturday, while Saskatchewan beat Manitoba 8-6. The fact that Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes is 0-2 so far is nothing short of breathtaking.
Let’s face it, the biggest story at the 2024 Scotties so far is Harris’s. On Saturday, she was the most trending person on X (formerly Twitter). Until Curling Canada provides a clearer explanation as to why she is not competing in Calgary, the speculation and rumors will continue.
