Nearly 30 energy drinks are being recalled by Health Canada.
THUNDER BAY — Health Canada has recalled several energy drinks.

A total of 26 types of bottled and canned energy drinks are being recalled due to caffeine content and labeling requirements on product packaging.
Health Canada has not reported any illnesses associated with consumption of these products.
However, people are advised not to “consume, serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled products” if they have any of the items listed. Additionally, “recalled products should be discarded or returned to the place where they were purchased.”
In an email to Health Canada, they noted that the recall of the listed products was due to routine investigations by the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency). They also wrote, “Follow-up actions, reports and findings of the sale of non-compliant caffeinated energy drinks and blends have led to further recalls.”
It also noted that in Canada, energy drinks cannot contain more than 180 mg of caffeine per serving.
Health Canada added in its response that “these products also require warning labels to protect vulnerable subgroups, including children, and to provide information on the safe number of servings per day.”
Consuming products high in caffeine may pose adverse risks in children, pregnant individuals, individuals who are breastfeeding, and individuals sensitive to caffeine.
The federal agency lists the side effects of excessive caffeine consumption, including insomnia, irritability, headaches, and nervousness.
