Canada: Diljit Dosanjh has been striving for world domination for years. The Punjabi singer and actor recently conquered the US when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, made history at Coachella and hit the North American box office with his Punjabi romantic comedy Jatt & Juliet 3. Now he has his eyes set on Canada.
Diljit performed in Canada last weekend to a sold-out crowd at the Rogers Center in Toronto. He made history again by becoming the first Punjabi artiste to fill the venue. Diljit took to his Instagram stories to share snippets of his performance on popular tracks like Born To Shine and a huge crowd cheering him on.
He also shared a video on his feed in which he received a surprise visit from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Justin, who wore a white t-shirt and brown pants, met Diljit before the show. Diljit, wearing a yellow striped shirt and red turban, was happy to meet the Canadian prime minister as they hugged. Justin also met Diljit’s team and crew as they got him and Diljit cheering on the singer’s signature line, “Punjabi aa gaye oye” (Punjabis are here).
Diljit wrote in the caption, “Diversity is the strength of ??. Prime Minister @justinpjtrudeau came to take a look at history: We sold out the Rogers Center!” Justin also shared the same video on his Instagram feed, along with another carousel post of pictures with Diljit and his crew. In this caption, he wrote, “I stopped by the Rogers Center to wish @diljitdosanjh good luck before his show.” Canada is a great country – one where a man from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity is not just our strength. It’s a superpower.”
