Day 16: Preview of the 2024 Olympic Games

Four Canadians have a chance to win an Olympic medal on Sunday, the final day of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Let’s take a look at who these athletes are.

Malindi Elmore

Elmore will compete in the women’s marathon (12 p.m. MT). The Kelowna, British Columbia native finished ninth in the women’s marathon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Elmore has also had international success in the women’s 1500 meters in the past (bronze at the 2003 Summer Universiade in Daegu, South Korea and bronze at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico).

Maggie Coles-Lyster

Coles-Lyster will compete in the women’s track cycling omnium on Sunday (3 a.m. MT). The 25-year-old from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, has been successful internationally in the team pursuit, scratch events, madison and elimination events. Coles-Lyster won the silver medal in the madison and team pursuit at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.

James Hedgcock

Hedgcock, of Ancaster, Ontario, will compete in the men’s keirin quarterfinals on Sunday (3:29 a.m. MT). He was part of the Canadian team that won gold in the team sprint at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

Nick Wammes

Wammes, of London, Ontario, will also compete in the quarterfinals of the men’s keirin race. He and Hedgcock won gold in the team sprint at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.
