Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) reckons Malaysian team can beat Indonesia in quarter-finals Thomas Cup 2021 at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Denmark, Friday (10/15).
Malaysia face Indonesia in the 2021 Thomas Cup quarter-finals tonight. This is the first meeting between Indonesia and Malaysia since losing in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Sudirman Cup on October 1.
On paper, Indonesia is more favored than Malaysia. However, BAM’s director of coaching, Wong Choong Haan, believes Le Zii Jia and his friends can beat Indonesia.
As Malaysia had just lost to Japan in the final Group D game on Thursday (10/14), Choong Haan said the team from the neighboring country was not afraid to face Indonesia.
“We have to learn from the loss against Japan because they are one of the leading teams. I have confidence in their players to be able to stand up against Indonesia,” Choong Haan said. Appointed.
“All teams are tied so it doesn’t matter who they play against [di perempat final]. We must therefore prepare a strategy and show our capacity to face the obstacles that await us. It is important. Our coaching team will discuss to find the right strategy, ”Choong Haan said.
Malaysia qualified for the 2021 Thomas Cup quarter-finals as Group D runners-up. In the group stage, Malaysia won 5-0 against Canada and lost 1-4 against Japan. Malaysia’s only victory against Japan came in the men’s singles by Leong Jun Hao who beat Kenta Nishimoto.
Indonesia should be wary of Malaysia’s strength in the 2021 Thomas Cup quarter-finals tonight. Because during the Sudirman Cup 2021, two Indonesian representatives, Kevin Sanjaya / Marcus Gideon and Anthony Ginting, lost in the quarter-finals. Two of Indonesia’s victories were in the women’s singles and women’s doubles.
