The Concordia University Stingers won the 2024 USport Women’s Hockey Championship from Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On Sunday, the Stingers defeated the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 3-1 in the championship final.

Rosalie Begin-Cyr of St-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec, led the Stingers with two points. She had a goal and an assist. The other two Stingers scorers were Emilie Lussier of Ste-Martine, Quebec and Jessymaude Drapeau of Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec.

The gold medal game was a complete performance by the Stingers. The only goal the Varsity Blues scored came with 47 seconds left in the third period when the game was out of reach.

The Stingers were number one in the tournament. They defeated the host team, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, 4-0 in the quarterfinals and then defeated the University of Waterloo Warriors 3-1 in the semifinals.

The Varsity Blues have now been tested more than the Stingers in the run-up to the final. That’s because they defeated the University of New Brunswick Reds in the quarterfinals and the University of Montreal Carabins in the semifinals by identical 2-1 scores. The Varsity Blues’ victory over the Carabins came in a shootout.

This is the Stingers’ fourth Canadian University Women’s Hockey Championship. They previously won in 1998, 1999 and 2022.
