The Canadian National Railway Company and the union that represents 750 of its signal and communications workers have agreed to binding arbitration, ending a two-week strike.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers notified CN of its intention to strike in mid-June after it failed to reach a new agreement on benefits and wage increases. These issues remain unresolved and will be settled by arbitration.
The strike will end Tuesday at midnight, according to a CN press release.
“CN would like to thank its management, employees and contractors for their service which allowed rail operations to continue uninterrupted during the strike,” the statement said.
The IBEW confirmed the strike was ending but did not provide a statement at the time of publication.
CN went through an eight-day strike by more than 3,000 workers represented by Teamsters Canada in November 2019. This strike halted shipments and disrupted industries across the country.
CN moves more than 300 million tonnes of freight and consumer goods across the continent each year.
